Developing Your Brand for Social Media Success

Developing Your Brand for Social Media Success

We love working with brands pre-launch to give our feedback on not only how to launch on social, but how they can set up their brand for future social success. This can look like un-boxing experience, UX, etc. Let’s dive into some of our four favorite things to think about when it comes to building a brand that will perform well on it’s on for social media:

#1 Unique Packaging/Offer

This one may be obvious but packaging is the start of it all. Once somone gets that package in the mail - is it an experience or just a box?

Having an “unboxing” moment can significantly increase purchases and online posts by customers who are excited to have gotten your package - not only to show off the product itself but what receiving something from your brand is like.

Here are a few of my favorite brand packages:

MERIT x Proenza Schouler

I haven’t made a MERIT purchase yet but want to ASAP. They are known for their products coming in a really cute brownish reusable tie bag - it’s become iconic. Recently I got this ad on my Instagram that they collaborated on a limited time bag with Proenza Schouler - not only is this an amazing move to bring a piece luxury to everyone who spends over $100 but this bag is the perfect brand collaboration tool.

Looking for packaging inspo or help making it happen? One of my favorite TikTok accounts is @OrenMeetsWorld whose account focuses on building brands.

#2 Brand Commitment/Mission

Something that helps brands grow on social media is through collaborations for social content, giveaways, etc. Most of the time your social follower count is your currency to make that happen (along with other factors like brand synergy). However, I have seen some brand collaborations come early on when a brand just launched - yes there can be some founder besties out there, but from what I have noticed this comes from how seamlessly their brands align in who they are for and what their mission is. You don’t see new brands popping up often that have it all figured out so early on, but if you really spend that time developing the brand beforehand that can help move things along earlier on in your partnerships/collaborations journey.

#3 Unique Product Design/Look

When people see something they are unfamiliar with they naturally want to learn more - this will lead to people buying things to just see it for themselves or duet videos on TikTok talking about it. A natural conversation starter. The OG brand that comes to mind is Dyson - their whole mission is to recreate everyday items for the better and design at top of mind. A few other CPG brands that have done this and seen success are:

#4 Bold Claims and Messaging

When you want people talking about you on social - you have to be BOLD. That means:

  • Having a clear brand voice

  • Knowing who you are for and who you are not for

  • Making bold brand claims

  • Not being afraid to piss people off

Brands that play it safe will never build lovers (or haters) to their brand (at least not a lot), but those that are not backing down and go for it get people talking. Liquid Death is the number one brand that comes to mind when talking about being BOLD.
