Utilizing Threads to Boost Instagram Performance

Utilizing Threads to Boost Instagram Performance

It’s no shocker that brands are seeing Instagram engagement down and follower growth dwindling. While you may have spent years building up this channel, you are probably disappointed in its output right now for your business.

Before I dive in to how Threads can help you on Instagram, just remember the following:

  1. Social media channels are best when they first come out

  2. Content strategy is EVERYTHING and you have to evolve with user behavior and algorithm changes (as often as they may be)

  3. All channels will pull you in until they focus on monetizing (aka Instagram is really in it’s paid ad era)

With Threads coming out earlier this year, I wasn’t sure how this would play out. A lot of brands are not on Twitter because they didn’t think their audience was and I think the problem was Twitter is very conversational and with (typically) the approval process creating content like that can be hard.

However, there is a great opportunity for brands right now who want to see Instagram growth as well as growth on a new channel that seems to have a more diverse user base than Twitter on Threads.

  • A new posting type

    • Think of Threads posts like a new posting type on Instagram. Since Threads post are now showing in your feed when scrolling, this is a great opportunity to get more awareness in the feed of your followers.

  • A badge of honor

    • When you have a Threads account you can have the number of your joining on the profile. This lets people know your brand has a Threads account and may check it out - especially intriguing to people who love your brand and want to see a different type of content from you.

  • A new way to engage

    • It’s no surprise that consumers want to see new content types on Instagram and maybe your brand hasn’t figured out. Maybe Threads is a new project to take on and give your consumers (who you may have seen more engaging previously) a new place to engage with you that may seem better than DMs.

  • Other benefits?

    • Since Threads and Instagram are owned by Meta (obviously) there are potentially other benefits of your Meta accounts when using Threads. We are not for sure this is the case, but doesn’t hurt to be active here to see what unknown benefits your Instagram account receives.
